Leadership in Public Affairs 2004 is a free DVD containing several features on the community-based deliberative democracy forums run by the LPA. Contents include:
bulletCommunity Leadership One Link at a Time. A 12 minute documentary based on the Spring, 2004 Public Issues Summit. Without dwelling on the details of the theory of deliberative democracy this piece does an excellent job of conveying the positive atmosphere of community deliberations. Preview it online.

 

bulletAdditional interview material collected for Community Leadership (6 minutes). This material provides a bit more insight on the purposes of deliberative forums.

 

bulletKeynotes from the Fall 2003 (Brian Hughes, Mercer County Executive), and Spring 2004 (DeForrest Soaries, former N.J. Secretary of State) Public Issues Forums (32 minutes total). bulletDeliberative Democracy: Re-Creating Citizen Politics a 20 minute presentation originally distributed in 2002. It explains the nature of deliberative democracy, contrasts it to the typical means of citizen participation in politics, and illustrates these points with case studies of two deliberative forums held by the LPA program at The College of New Jersey during the 2001-2002 academic year.
